Why I started a blog

Updated: Nov 26, 2021

I started this blog because I want to share how I'm building more creativity into my career and day to day life.

I left my job as a Digital Communications Officer in the not-for-profit sector in 2018. I wanted to commit all my time to developing a career as an illustrator.

I haven't formally studied illustration or any other form of visual arts, and I didn't have any experience in the illustration and design sector when I took the leap. So, I have very much been learning on the job.

In this blog I want to share my experience of how it's going.

I want to:

  • Be very honest and upfront about my personal experience pursuing a commercial creative career

  • Explore topics that I, as an illustrator, artist, printmaker, potter, writer and general messy creative, find interesting and useful

  • Discuss pragmatic issues, tips and discoveries

  • Explore the impact this career path has on me personally

  • Map and record my own creative practice and processes

I hope that what I share here will help or inspire anyone who is interested in pursuing a creative career path, or is already on one. I'm also hoping that anyone who loves discussing all the ins and outs, details and philosophical wonderments of creativity will enjoy this blog.

It's going to get personal, philosophical, goofy, messy and creative up in here. Oh yes, and pretty dorky too.

P.S. Comment away! Leave all the comments. Tell me your thoughts, fears, hopes and dreams. But keep it civil, of course.
